Have you ever wanted to have a go at rowing? Our Adult Learn to Row Level 1 is the ideal opportunity to do just that, with the aim of this course being to get you out on the water as much as possible. This Level 1 is particularly aimed at complete beginners and requires no experience at all, teaching you all you need to know to get rowing out in Bristol’s beautiful Harbour.

You will:

  • Learn about safety, both on and off the water.
  • Be able to identify boats and equipment that you will be using.
  • Know what clothing to wear.
  • Learn the correct rowing technique.

You will be taught by qualified and experienced rowing coaches who will help you develop the skills you need to row safely and well on a skiff or gig.

You will be working together in a crew, so it’s a great way to meet some new people. Why not persuade some friends, family or work colleagues to come along too – you could form a crew of your own!

*Please note that the time required to complete these courses does depend on ability and weather conditions. You will only complete and pass the course if you have demonstrated the ability to complete all of the syllabus in appropriate weather conditions*

Level 1 is the first half of the Learn to Row qualification and can be followed by Level 2, which we also offer here at the centre. Each stage builds on the previous one with the aim of taking you from the basic skills, through to improved technique, confidence and increased awareness of safety in Level 2.

Please note the Learn to Row Level 1 course is a pre-requisite for those wishing to join the Pay & Play rowers.
